Thanks to the wonderful local chefs that prepared these dishes for us. And, as usual, thanks to the always stellar crew that made this happen. And we did eat a whole bunch of this. Scrumptious!

Wed, 18 Apr 2012 09:17:40 -0700 INSTAGRAM B.D. (Before Digital) http://davebradleyphoto.posterous.com/instagram-bd-before-digital http://davebradleyphoto.posterous.com/instagram-bd-before-digital Before Instagram, before Facebook, before iPhone, there was another kind of social media. You would shoot photos with cameras like these American made beauties. Then you would send the film or the camera to the lab (unless you were shooting with a Polaroid). Then you would share the photos with friends and family. Of course you had to be in the same room to do this.

Ansco_3_folding_buster_brown_0

The Ansco #3 Buster Brown Folding Camera, built in Binghamton, New York in 1912 or 1913. It shot postcard sized exposures on roll film.

Brownie_six-20_004

The SIX-20 Brownie box camera was manufactured by Kodak in Rochester, New York, between May 1933 and April 1941. It shot eight 6cmx9cm images on 629 film. It had two focus zones, "5-10 feet" and "10 feet and beyond". Pretty simple.

Brownie_movie_camera_004

This camera was manufactured by Kodak in Rochester, New York in the 1950s. I couldn't determine the exact date. It was a wind up camera and shot Kodachrome film. My guess is you'd need sunlight or a bank of very bright builds to get a correct exposure. That explains why, when you see those old 8mm family films, everyone is squinting.

Imperial_reflex_620_003

The Imperial Reflex Camera was made by the Imperial Camera Company in Chicago, Illinois around 1961. It was a plastic camera with plastic lenses and shot 620 roll film, It was  the official camera of The Boy Scouts of America. It was also the camera that Marina Oswald used to photograph Lee Harvey Oswald in their backyard. He's holding the rifle that he would later use to assassinate John F. Kennedy.

Cin_kodak_model_bb_001

The Cine-Kodak was the first 16mm movie camera introduced in 1923. This model, the Cine-Kodak BB, was made in 1929. This camera is extremely well built and was very popular with professionals and advanced amateurs. There were very few film of the police pepper spraying students.

Polaroid_340_007

The Polaroid Automatic 340 Land Camera, produced from 1969 until 1973, was an instant camera that used pack film. It's probably the closest thing to the instant gratification we get with digital cameras. Of course, the picture from this camera involved chemical reactions, some physical effort and waiting 90 seconds for the image to emerge. It was magic.

Polaroid_model_95_005

The Model 95 is the first of Edwin Land's instant picture cameras. In 1948, The Polaroid Corporation in Rochester, New York made, at the minimum, 1.5 million of this magnificent folding camera. The build quality and materials are beautiful. Thanks Dr. Land!

PF Flyers are now a part of New Balance. These shoes will be released only in Asia with a 500 pair limited edition on each style (lucky Far East).

I love the styling on these guys. I loved PF Flyers when I was a kid and ,damn, I want a pair now!

Thank you, Adam, for having me join in this collaboration. And thank you Mari Quirk of Associated Quirks for supplying the aged wood surfaces and boxes. They really made the shots.

It's the first full day of spring at Pleasure Bay in fabulous South Boston. The beach is crowded little kids, adults and teens playing hooky, old folks and everyone in between. I've been working in Southie for a long time and have never, ever witnessed a scene like this in March...or April....or May. I highly recommend you go outside., right now.

This place loves the Holga and the Holga loves it. The location is a real gem in Boston. Fact...Edgar Allan Poe was stationed here in 1827. It's said that he may have based his short story, "The Cask of Amontillado," on a tale about a duel between two officers at the Fort.

Big props to Jessica Weatherhead for the beautiful food styling.

It was a lot of fun a really cool to see these beautiful and artistic treatments from the bakers. The bonus (or maybe not) was the large amount of candy that was left at the studio. We shot this a little before halloween, so some kids were treated to big bags of licorice. And a shout out to Lauren Niles, who did the prop styling.

Our base was on the east side of Zion National Park. Day one was Zion. I have to say this was our favorite, because of the diversity of landscape, geology and how easy it was to see a lot of spectacular views. Day two was Bryce Canyon. Fantastic! The hiking can be strenuous, as you go down into the canyon, then up. It's like being on another planet, Mars, perhaps. The colors and shapes of the hoodoos are mind blowing. Day three was the North Rim of The Grand Canyon. You have to actually view it with your own eyes. Photography cannot show the vast awesomeness of it. I did try though. If you decide you'd like to try this, plan on a lot of driving, but through mesmerizing, BIG, country.
